I would like to start off by saying, this blog is dedicated to the beautiful, chaotic yet joyful journey of motherhood. I’ll share everything from Mom Hacks to Relatable motherhood stories but I don’t intend to give “parenting advice” especially on how to raise your children. In my personal opinion every child needs to be parented differently, there for I can’t give you advice on what will work for yours. But what I can confidently share, are tips others have shared with me that have opened my my mind, helped me or shifted my mindset. So here are 5 Best Parenting Tips Other Moms have taught me!
1.) Hide and Seek is a game only played at Home
One day I was out with a friend and our kids, her daughter stood behind her moving every time she turned. She turned around quickly to face her daughter and said ” We only play Hide and Seek at home”. I didn’t have to ask any questions about this statement she made because I knew how smart it was when I heard it. Kids love games, but some games should be restricted to the confines of home to keep them safe. Making the rule to have Hide & Seek be a game played only at home, makes the parent and child aware that if they can’t find or see each other, there is a potentially serious matter at hand. No wonder it made it as the first of the 5 Best Parenting Tips Other Moms have taught me.
2.) Potty Training your kids Bare-Bottomed
My night nurse at the hospital when I gave birth to my second told me this and it worked! When we potty trained my eldest we tried, Pull ups, then we tried Training Pants then we just decided to give bare-bottom potty training a try and it worked, VERY quickly. She had told me that this was how she potty trained all three of her children and they all were in underwear in less than three days! I have my own post about potty training HERE, with my step by step details of how we potty trained using the method the nurse had mentioned.
3.) Loading the Kids in One door
I honestly wasn’t the biggest fan of this with two under two, but now since they are a little older now it’s easy to ask one to crawl over into their chair. This just another safety measure for when you are out and about with multiple kids. Always open the door of the smallest child and have the older child or children crawl over to get into their seats. I’ve had strange interactions in parking lots and this tips has been a life saver many times.
4.) Hooded Jackets for Runners
This piece of advice comes from my own mother! I was a runner, a track star and a comedian as a toddler. My mom found herself too often in scenarios where I nearly ran into the street, so she made sure every time we left home I was dressed in something with a hood attached. Fast-forward to now, I have given birth to two very adventurous children and one of them is indeed a track star. Having a hood on her before we leave home has helped me a ton when she thinks she is ready to run off, it gives me that extra couple of inches of reach.
5.) Use a string to measure your child’s foot
Multiple mom influencers have shared this and it’s an amazing tip. You take a string measure your child’s foot length and keep the string in your purse or bag when you are shoe shopping for them bring out the string to measure the shoe. If you are a parent to multiple kids, I recommend putting a colorful piece of tape on the end of each string so you don’t get sizes mixed up. Since my oldest name starts with a “B” I always make the color of anything for her Blue so I associate “B” with Blue it helps a lot!
I hope this list of 5 Best Parenting Tips Other Moms have taught me helps you. Motherhood is filled with so many unknowns so when moms can pour into each other, I think it really enhances the Journey of motherhood for us ALl! WE all parent Differently but we can all learn from each other!
