First off let’s talk about what a slow morning routine is. A slow morning routine is a rush free morning allowing you to be intentional about the things that are most important to you. While prioritizing the things that will set the tone for your day! Everyones SLOW morning routine looks different and that is the purpose of creating your own. As a Stay at Home mom of two toddlers, it was pretty difficult to find “my perfect” slow morning routine but now that It’s become a routine and daily part of my life, I can share how I was able to create it.
5 way to create a Slow Morning routine
1.) Establish your priorities
One of the best ways to begin creating a slow morning routine is by setting your intentions for the day. Deciding what your focus is on, I’ve found it’s easiest to pick no more than two areas of focus to prioritize at the start of your day. For me those areas are Health and Spiritual Growth, but yours could be anything from relationships to your career. Pick one or two focus areas to dedicate your slow morning to.
2.)Plan today for tomorrow
I actually heard this from a nutritionist but it can apply here. Before you wind down for the night, write down what you want tomorrow to look like with prioritizing the two things you listed. Here is an example of what my planning today for tomorrow looks like when prioritizing health and relationships (my family).
3.) Wake up Earlier
This is for those who have a busy schedule throughout the day or whose days begin at a specific time daily. As a stay at home mom, I don’t have the privilege of staying in bed until noon or even 10am. Funny thing is before becoming a mom, I honestly thought that’s what staying home with my kids would be like, staying in bed and our pj’s all day watching tv. Reality check being a stay at home mom is WORK, so whether you are a mom who works in the house or out of it waking up earlier can help create more “hours” in your day and help you feel less rushed.
4.) Linger in each moment
Physically slow down and allow your mind to match that energy. What do I mean you may ask? When you make your morning green tea, have it in a mug, sit down while you drink it and don’t chug it but sip it. This is you physically manifesting what you want your mind and body to begin to do, slow down. Rushing is very normal here in the U.S. it seems like its engrained in our minds to move quickly from one thing to another but there are so many benefits to just slowing down.
5.) Be Where you are
My last suggestion for creating a slow morning routine is to mentally be where you are. Have you ever been to dinner with someone and you are physically there but mentally struggling to engage in the conversation because your mind is somewhere else. It is easy to let the next thing over shadow where we currently are. Start small by being intentional about truly immersing yourself where you are. For example, if your priority is relationships or building new ones. Instead of rushing out after pilates class consider staying where you are so you can meet someone new. Don’t let where you are headed stop you from being where you are.
I have to share with you this subject: 5 ways to create a slow morning routine, was brought on by the fact that I realized my family and I are having these majority of the time now and it’s so refreshing. The other morning I came home from the gym, got cleaned up, started making waffle batter, put some bacon in the oven and set out yogurt and fruit all while my family slept. As they began to wake up one by one, I turned on some worship music to set the mood. By the time my husband was finished getting ready for work, we all sat down together and enjoyed breakfast. It felt so peaceful & slow. My husband said to me ” I love mornings like this, it’s nice”. I’m grateful that a lot more of our mornings look like this!
Wishing you a Slow & Peaceful Morning!
