8 Guilt-free screen time shows for your toddlers! First, I’d like to breakdown, “guilt-free” for a minute. I’m not insinuating that you should feel guilty but if you are anything like me, you just might. As a stay at home mom, I do my best to give my kiddos an assortment of screen-free activities to do. Let’s be honest though some screen time can be beneficial also sometimes Mama just needs a minute. These shows are considered guilt-free to me because they aren’t super fast-paced or the screen isn’t changing scenes every two seconds. These shows also my have a positive message or teach positive life, social skills or are educational in some way.
1.) Mayta the Brown Bear
Mayta the Brown Bear is a channel on Youtube, Mayta the Brown Bear is with his friend “B”. Mayta the Brown Bear, B and sometimes a special guest learn everything from alphabets to the solar system. They also do science experiments and learn skills together. If you are a Blippi lover, I would say B, Mayta the Brown Bear’s friend has the energy of Blippi but is more calm and teaches more educational content and more in depth. This is a great option for an engaging, educational screen time that isn’t too high energy. Side note: the why behind the making of Mayta the Brown Bear is a beautiful one, you can read about it here.
2.) Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood
If you are from the generation that grew up watching Mr.Roger’s neighborhood then you will love Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. It is a modern spin off of the show if you ask me, same theme song except replaced with words “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood”. Each episode is about navigating a feeling or overcoming a challenge, the one that sticks out to me the most is an episode about Daniel Tiger learning to get along with his baby sister. If you are in the middle of helping a little one adjust to a new sibling this might be a really great show and episode. Sometimes it’s hard to help children grasp why their baby or younger sibling knocks over the blocks they just built or took their toy. This show and episode helps shine a light on the fact that babies just don’t know. Other episodes talk about overcoming anger, meeting new people and so much more. Overall the content is amazing, the scenes are bright and colorful which my kids love but we still limit it as I personally feel it could be over stimulating if watched for too long.
3.) Guess How Much I love you
Based off of the Book “Guess How Much I love you”, the illustrations in the show are the same as the book. You can find Guess How Much I love you on Prime Video through your Amazon Prime Membership. We don’t watch this one too much as I feel it borders on being fast paced (But it could just be because of the bouncing because they ARE hares hahaha) but it’s a really sweet show. The show is about Little Nut Brown hare exploring the world around him with friends and family. But each night, him and his father (Big Nut Brown Hare) Guess how much they love each other.
4.) Miss Honey Bear (speech therapist)
Miss Honey Bear can be found on YouTube! Y’all if I was going to gate keep this would have been the one. Miss Honey Bear is amazing, she reads books but not only reads them asks questions about what was mentioned in the book and points out details about the pictures in the book. What would be a five min read in my home if I read it, is a twenty to twenty-five minute read on her video. I will say that my oldest is more interested in this than my younger toddler. Also the books Miss Honey Bear reads are more intriguing when she is reading a book, that you often read in your home. For example my oldest didn’t care to hear her read “Rainbow Fish”, but was thrilled to hear/watch her read “Good Night, Little Blue Truck” and ” Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see” because she is read those books often. Last but not least, Miss Honey Bear is a great guilt-free screen time option but please don’t use it as substitution for spending quality time with your kids and reading to them.
5.) Tumble Leaf
Tumble Leaf can be found on Prime Video through your amazon prime membership. This one has become a family favorite. Fig is a Fox and everyday he finds something new in the finding place, goes on adventures to discover more about what he’s found and honestly has a grand ol’ time doing it. This is such a great option if you have kids that are a little older, they might actually enjoy it, I know I do. Once again this show has vibrant colors, so it isn’t something I wouldn’t let my littles watch for too many episodes but it is a nice slow-paced, positive show filled with adventure.
6.) Tab Time
Tab Time can be found on Youtube, Tabitha Brown is the main character. This show is super interactive, creative and educational. Each episode is different yet consistent at the same time, let me explain. The subject of each episode changes from “How things grow” to “How music can make us feel different”. Every episode topic is different but the schedule and show set up remains the same. The show begins in Tab’s Garden, then goes to the Magic playroom, then Tab’s lab, Craft time takes place, snack time and it ends with story time. Tab time might be for kids but she speaks some truths, that some of us adults need too. Extremely positive, uplifting and I love how she ends with “Have a good day and if you can’t, don’t go messing up nobody else’s!” It might make you laugh, but it’s the truth and I love it.
7.) Cowboy Jack
Stay with me here, think “Southern Blippi”. Cowboy Jack can be found on Youtube. A huge pro about his channel is, if you live in Texas or are planning to visit the Houston area. He goes all over the Greater Houston Area, so you will get a lot of ideas on where to go. Cowboy Jack’s most loved shows in our home are when he is around live animals especially goats…why? I’ll never know. Randomly one day my oldest woke up and said “Can I watch Cowboy Jack”, later when I turned it on she said, “No the goat one” haha. His videos range from going to Interactive Aquarium to going to Farms where they make Goat milk soap. Pretty slow paced yet educational when it comes to animals and things of that nature.
8.) Sid the Kid
Sid the Kid can be found on PBS kids. Sid is a kid who wakes up asking a question and his day is filled with discovering the answer to that question. Questions like ” why does my tag itch?” or “why don’t my shoes fit”. Sid then goes into the kitchen and discusses this with his parents, and then goes off to school and discovers more about it with his friends and in his class. He is later picked up at the end of school by his grandma and goes home to tell his parents all about what he discovered about the question he had. Honestly I could see this show being beneficial for a child transitioning to school in the next year or two as it shines a positive light on learning, classroom/teacher relationships and friendships.
Happy Watching!
