Equipment

  • Large Skillet/Pan *
  • Bowl or Small Baking dish
  • Whisk
  • Fork
  • Metal Spatula
  • Plate

Ingredients

  • 2 TBSP Butter for cooking
  • 4 Slices Thick cut bread or stale bread **
  • 1/3 cup Heavy Cream or your favorite milk
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Bean Paste or Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tsp Pure Maple syrup sub Agave or honey
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon optional

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl or small baking dish add in the cracked egg, cream, pure maple, vanilla & cinnamon.
  • Whisk together until egg is blended smoothly with other ingredients. Mixture should look pale, yellow or cream colored. Then Set aside.
  • Heat Large Skillet over medium heat. Add in butter and allow it to melt (reduce heat if your butter begins browning quickly).
  • Quickly lay one slice of bread into the egg cream mixture for about 5 seconds then flip and allow other side to sit for about 5 seconds then use fork to lift bread and place into skillet with butter. You should hear the pan sizzle when the bread hits it.
  • Repeat the above with the remaining pieces of bread.
  • Pour any remaining egg/cream mixture onto the slices of bread evenly
  • Let bread cook on one side for about 2-3 min or until you see its browning. Then flip with Metal spatula and allow the other side to cook. French toast should be perfectly browned on both sides, now.
  • Remove French toast from Pan and place on your desired plate or serving dish.
  • Enjoy with Fresh fruit, whipped cream, pure maple or chocolate drizzle on top! (really the world is your oyster, put whatever you want on top) and enjoy!

Recipe Pro Tips:
Read the recipe: in its fullness one time before actually beginning it, it will increase your success with the recipe. As sometimes it hard to follow instructions while executing them.
The Skillet: you use can be stainless steel, cast iron or non-stick. When using a stainless steel pan just be very cautious of your heat as you may need to reduce the temp to low-medium to prevent the butter from burning too quickly. Browned Butter is delicious, burnt butter not some much!
Bread: The plus about this recipe is it can be made with your favorite gluten-free bread also. Whatever type of bread you choose, you'll want something that is, thick, dense or stale(day-old). My personal favorites to use are a thick-cut sourdough, or a brioche, but if you are feeling adventurous try this with some day old croissants (YUM!).
Toppings/How to serve: In our home we serve french toast with a drizzle of pure maple syrup or honey on top and then we put "sprinkles" aka hemp hearts (shelled hemp seeds) on top! I either serve it along size a cheese omelette with avocado and fruit or greek yogurt with berries.
